Night On The Cold Plain, Sophie Tassignon, Voice and Live Electronics, March 30th, 2023
Night On The Cold Plain is an improvisational meditation on the futility and absurdity of empire. The sonic materials are derived from Tassignon’s recent sound design work on Zinkjungen, a theatrical adaptation by Ezbieta Bednarska of the novel of the same name by nobel laureate Svetlana Alexievich, where she confronts the absurdity of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. In Plain, Tassignon uses the voice as the source of transmittal that unfolds as a kind of psychedelic narrative.
Missive D’un Autre Temps (2022) – composed by Sophie Tassignon
Missive D’un Autre Temps invokes the solitude and wonder of the ritual spaces of early music. The source materials for Missive were recorded in the Lau Kyrka church in Gotland (Sweden) and transformed into a mixture of sonic tapestries that evoke the drones of ancient voices. Melodies float in and out reminding us of the importance of the voice as a vehicle for transcendence and their disappearance insists that our personal journeys emerge from our collective experience. Missive invites the listener to wander through time and space.
This piece will be premiered on July 14th, 2022 in Lau Kyrka church as part of the event “GuteLjaudKarte”, a series of electroacoustic concerts which happen every summer on Gotland.
Les Carnets de Louise (2022) – composed by Kevin Patton & Sophie Tassignon
Les Carnets de Louise explores an imagined innerspace where fragments of two poems of Louise de Vilmorin—Aveu Monosyllabique and Novembre—mirror a dialogue between a deconstructed piano and guitar vocabulary. Non repeating rhythmic variations for rectifying rotational implications circle an ever evolving echo of the estuary-like co-mingling. Carnets thinks through these sonic relationships to propose a notion of what lies beneath the surface of the seemingly hackneyed love story.
This piece will be premiered on July 14th, 2022 in Lau Kyrka church as part of the event “GuteLjaudKarte”, a series of electroacoustic concerts which happen every summer on Gotland.
